Eating Dumplings Tradition inChina
Northern Chinese have been eating dumplings as a ritual of Lunar Chinese New Year celebrations for many years. As a kid was raising in Harbin, a capital city of Heilongjiang province, in Northern China, I remembered our elaborated
celebration in the Lunar Chinese New Year Eve. Our families and relatives gathered together and ate a ten-course dinner around 6pm at my grandparents' house. Shortly after the dinner, my mom and my aunts prepared the dough and the fillings of dumplings. They were busy preparing fresh dumplings for all of us so that we could eat fresh hot dumplings right before the midnight of the Lunar Chinese New Year Eve. It was a tradition to eat fresh delicious handmade dumplings in every Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Chinese dumplings symbolize good fortune, wealth and health for a fresh start of the Chinese Lunar year because the shapes of the dumplings are the same shape of the golden currencies used many centuries ago in China. I hope to share the northern traditional style of the delicious Chinese dumplings made with my grandparents' recipe with you, you and your family could have a taste of the Northern China cuisine and bring some joy of tasty dumplings.
